My resume is exactly as you say it should be.  But still no calls. I have been unemployed for seven months and I've received two inquires from employment agents that told me I was going to be a hard fit (thanks-a-lot). I have applied to a number of employers directly and not one call or inquiry. It's becoming very, very depressing.  I have to ask myself "I'm I too old for the work force"?  Even though employers are not suppose to practice age discrimination to say the lease,  but it is easily recognized once your resume is review.  Your work history tells the story of how young you are not.  How do you raise above this?

Ditto . . . "hard to fit because you have so much experience and you are intimidating." How DOES one get around this? I am an accountant.

Rosalita,

There myself.  I boast of 20 years legal experience and have a paralegal degree.  Still doors shutting in my face.  Is it not common courtesy to respond to those who applied for the job when an employer ran an ad?  What is wrong with employers today?  Becoming a paralegal honed my ability to write; maybe I should try to get published and switch careers.

Les402000-

I'm an accountant also.  What I have been doing during my down time is starting an accounting and financial management business. But how successful can it be if I no longer have the funds to support it?  Besides, it is something I can do part time, that is if I'm gainfully employed again.

cmsmith03-

Why don't you get started on that.  It will ease your mind off the obious.  And who knows where it may lead.  There are some online companies that will pay for your knowledge.  Check out about.com.  Also, go to Tory web site (or GMA and read her articles) there she list other on line businesses.

Stay Strong!
