I had a job interview 2 weeks ago and still have not heard anything. My family asked me if I sent my Thank You Letter. Is sending a Thank You Letter after an interview a must? When I was in college they never mentioned or stressed the point of sending a thank You letter. Is this something that you recommend?

Hi Tory,

Your advice came at a perfect time for me. I was just turned down by what seemed like a very promising job opportunity in NYC. I'm a recent college grad, with a degree in writing, and my goal is to find a job in the city. But as a Pennsylvania resident, it's hard for me to make weekly trips into the city. I do plan on relocating if I find a job out there. Do you have any advice on how to produce a resume and cover letter that won't have me overlooked because I live out of state?

I'm not clear how this works. Are we supposed to hear you or be able to talk with you or just send messages electronically?

I am a recently recieved my Master (i went full time).  I have about 3 years work experience prior to that.  I completed internships while in graduate school.  However just looking at the dates makes my resume appear to have gaps.  As an employer, how would this look to you?  Also, what are other ways to say "intern"?

Agreed. How does this work? I'd love to see or hear all the discussion, including your responses, Tory.

Even if you don't want the job you should always send a Thank you note or email.

How can I also get feedback on my resume?  I have been looking for a position since May and I am trying to figure out what I can do better.  I receive very few calls for interviews. Thanks

Thank you letters are most definitely a must... aside from being the polite thing to do, they're also an additional opportunity to briefly review your strong points... as in "After speaking with you, I firmly believe that my experience in contract negotiation would be a great fit in your department."

Thank you for the advice. Since I still have not heard anything do you think it is still too late to send one?

Hello, I am current student in a Human resource program and we are reply to a lot of ads in the paper and online. I just wanted to know do you think it is appropriate to fax over you application? I think it is a little unprofessional. If I had a choice to fax or mail I would rather mail. What do you think?

I have been in the market for a job for over a year, I am unable to find anything.  I have changed my resume numerous times.  I go to interviews and I feel very confident that I'm going to get the job, then I get a letter in the mail stating that I was not a fit for the position, or that I'm overqualified.

I don't think it's ever too late to send one... and I always hand write mine on plain but good stationery.

When an employer asks why do you have gaps between employments, how would we answer?

Hi Tori, My name is Lakreshia and I ma a student a The marrakech Academy for Human Services in New Haven Ct. I am learning the field of human service and customer service. Although, I have experience in customer service and not human service this is what i want to build a career in. How do u think I should present my cover letter and resume to a company if i do not have the experience necessary for the position. But am taking the appropriate courses for the job.

Good question, is yours due to lay offs and working contractor jobs?
