I too have a fear of bridges. I think it is more to do with the height. I was not afraid of heights as a child since I climbed trees all summer long with my friends!
Funny thing is I am not afraid to drive over the Chesapeake Bay bridge tunnel at all.In fact I love it .After I get over the first part that is. I do drive over the Delaware Memorial Bridge because I love the beach. i drive in the middle lane gripping the steering wheel and stare straight ahead also !
My husband will torment me when he drives and stay in the right hand lane ! I fixed him by climbing in the back with our dogs (labs) whom by the way LOVE to look out at the water below!! Therefore I cannot see out any windows!!
Once on my way to Philadelphia My mother and I got stuck in a traffic jam on the Plat (?) Bridge. I was terrified it would collapse under the weight of all the vehicles. My mother said I was CRAZY ! She said it was safe since they have to inspect them constantly. (Her cousin is a retired engineer that worked on several bridges in the tri- state (Pa,NJ, De ) area. HA who's the CRAZY one now ! I pray for all the families affected by last weeks collapse in Minn.
