My daughter's Chow-Chow seems to be going (or has gone) deaf. This is very sad as she doesn't now respond to you when you walk in the room. She is 12 years old. Is there anything that can be done? She used to love sitting out on my deck & watching the wildlife & listening to the birds chirping. Of course, it also means she is not as effective as a guard dog because she can't hear someone coming. We lall ove this sweet dog & want the best for her. She seems healthy otherwise.

I'm no expert, but a 12 year old animal is bound to have some old age issues...just like humans.   Once the hearing is gone, I don't think there is anything you can do to get it back for her.  Sorry.  

I understand your frustration.  My 13-1/2 year old cocker had issues too.  He passed away since, but it was time.
