Hi Tory,

I'm not writing for  to return to the workforce, but for my son who is trying to enter the workforce.  We live in Michigan where jobs are few, but here is the background and problems.  My son 25yrs old graduated with a AA degree in 2004 in the printing industry, he has been unable to obtain employment, he either is over qualified for the small shops and has no prev. experience for the larger shops.  He was hired in Nov 2006 for large Christmas jobs in a printing shop then laid off in Jan 07.  He now has a large gap between graduating from school and no job in the field.  He then took a phlebotomist class thinking it could get a job with benefits, but again they require experience and will not even talk to you without.  Any suggestions on how to obtain experience when no one with hire you without it.  Most of the time applying over the internet is the only option the give you.

Thank you, Worried Mom

He should reconnect with his college.  Even though he graduated a few years ago, he can take advantage of their career services to find out what kind of employers are hiring people with his degree.  Ask them for contacts and to work with him in the process.  No matter where that school is located, they should be able to help if he presses them for it. Good luck
