Hello
I have a 21/2 year old Rottie with a history of congenital knee problems. our local vet operated on her knee and long story short, the osteotomy floated in her knee and destroyed cartilage. we are now under the care of a special vet surgeon who agrees she will eventually need a knee replacement but is not willing to say she must have it now. Because her only symptom is difficulty in getting up from a lying position, sits with back legs extended and unwillingness to jump up onto high objects (agility is out) The plan is to go back for reassessments every six months. My question is, where can I go to read more about knee replacements in dogs and assessing joint function. I am a nurse and willing to go through any of these procedures and understand they are weighing risk benefits. What do you think? She is a great dog and we want her to have a happy, healthy life.
