for my son's allergy, my doctor prescribed antihistamine and expectorant-anti asthma because of his chest congestion and colds. upon reading the literature accompanying the medicines, i learned that these meds are not recommended for children under 6 y/o. my son is only a year old. how come my doctor and another pediatrician i saw says it's ok to give these to a baby? he's currently taking 2.5 ml/6 hrs of the expectrant.

It's hard for me to comment on the details of a specific medical situation, and it's not clear to me whether the problem is congestion, colds, or allergies. I'd recommend asking this exact question to your doctor.
