I am steaming about the title of this segment: 'Greedy Geezers' and the Medicare Burden
John Stossel asks why the young have to pay medical costs of well-off elderly

Geezers?  Greedy? This is age discrimination and class warfare.  Want to see who is really greedy?

go to: www.stopguardianabuse.org wevsite and visit the NASGA blog to read who is greedy and who are the victims of this greed.

We make more, we spend more. We have childern and GRANDPARENTS to take care of. Don't cry to me about how my money will be gone once you're done with it! Do you know that seniors have free dentures, but children have to pay for check ups? Do you know that a woman with MS (and is 35) and is disabled gets $250 a month to live? That's what seniors get for 1/2 their perscriptions. The fact that you can't see both sides shows what type of person you are, bias and uneducated.

Were you watching the same show I was watching? Why should I pay for some retiree to go to the doctor when they don't need it and could afford it themselves. I'm more than willing to help the needy, I just don't want government to force me to help the unneedy.

Very well put.  I could not agree with you more.  The poor who need such benefits are a far cry from the wealthy ones who do not.
During this report, I remember a Simpson's episode exchange:

Bart: Where'd you get the money, Grandpa.

Abe: The government.  I didn't earn it and I don't need it ... but if they miss one payment I'll raise such a stink.

I am a senior and I would like to know where one can get free dentures.  You better check your facts.  And I pay for my health care premiums from my SS check every month.  This isn't exactly a free ride for everyone.

I'm not trying to be personal. What I say is true. It's easier for some then it should be. Don't you agree?

How about the disrespect of the youth to use them as bank accounts to fund those who have fat wallets that still want to take from the system so they can have their well manicured home in Boca for the winter and their Northeastern home for the summer or what we call them SnowBirds.

This portion wasn't directed to those who truly are struggling with finances.  It's for those who love to see the doctor cause they have nothing else in their life to do to get attention. I GOT AN IDEA. Instead of clogging the doctor's appt log ... go to a senior home where those who don't have the money to have a home worth a million dollars life in deplorable state and see how it is to truly NEED.  An then when you're in your Boca or NYC home ... you can truly thank God or whomever u praise for what u have and stop being ...... "Greedy Geezers" ...

AGAIN... THIS ISN'T MEANT FOR THOSE WHO ARE TRULY IN NEED. Just those that know they are sucking the funds from those who really need it.   Shame on you.  And the youth of the country are not your work horses. Stop stealing their future.

Who u trying to fool .. you're older than dirt ... heck .. u gave birth to dirt and your employer fired you for being preggers with dirt. So u resorted to eating tigers from India and driving a tank across a frozen lake while going ice fishing. Then to top that all off you started taking steroids.  =D

I work in the healthcare industry and I will be the first to tell you that it is broken.  However I completely disagree that it should be reformed and that the government should foot the bill.  My taxes are high enough I am sick of paying for things I don't use or may never see (medicare, social security) don't even get me started on paying taxes for schools when I don't have and don't intend on having children..  I agree that if you can pay for it and have a pension and 401k and are living in a 300k home that is paid for  you should pay for your own insurance.  You worked all your life, well so are we...you are not owed anything in life.  The one thing that got me steaming was that the woman stated going to the doc is her social life!?!? what the....

One of the top reasons healthcare is so expensive stems from malpractice and insurance because too many people in this country will sue for any given thing, we are a money hungry society and greedy.  I belive there should be a cap on how much you can sue for and what you can sue for.  Patients need to take more responsibility for their healthcare, DO YOUR RESEARCH don't be a blind patient and just take your  docs word for it.  They are only human and as humans we make mistakes!  We need to get out of the mentality of "what's in it for me?".

You are correct that dentures aren't covered.  But if you think the $96.30 that you pay for part B is anywhere close to what the premium is you are crazy.  Medicare asks you to pay this because 1) they are broke and 2) so that you will value it a little.  you ever notice if you give somebody something for long enough they begin to feel entitled?   Even with your small contribution (which is less than 1 tenth of what the premium would be w/o medicare) you feel entitled.
