None our soldiers were forced to join the U.S. forces, they did it because they felt some kind of calling.

=========

Not necessarily true.  I have served in the US Army for 9 years - active duty, national guard & reserves (currently).  People I know have joined for many reasons.  These include:

- a calling or sense of duty (as you mentioned)

- college money

- looking for adventure

- economic necessity

- a path to citizenship

- "go to the Army or go to jail" - yes, some people in their late teens/early 20's are still given that choice in court

I joined up initially for college money & adventure.  I reenlisted in 2006 out of a sense of duty as well as pursuing another avenue for retirement benefits.
