I have read many posts about how the parents "should have" or "could have" gotten this young man help. The question is how? Health insurance does not treat mental health in the same manner as other health coverage, i.e. higher co-pays, limit the number of office visits per year, higher deductibles, etc. In efforts to save health insurance costs, employer-sponsored health plans do not even provide mental health coverage. The States in efforts to cut budgets, have drastically cut services for the mentally ill. There is more violence of this type and too many mentally ill people living on the streets. Before passing blame, banning guns, etc. Maybe we should look at making mental health services more accessible.

the parents are accountable for this, just exactly how hard did they work on getting him help, from what I have seen they did little or nothing. let's stop blaming the system for the parent's not even trying.
