I as an adult have deliberatly forced myself into challenging situations in order to overcome limitations of the autistic characteristics. All of my girls andĀ female grandchildren have autism to varying degrees. If you have to, take them a written copy of the written diagnosis you are entitled to. Ask that it make reference to the actual "book" diagnostic reference code. Coming from a professional, the diagnosis should not be refuted. The schools do this out of sifting trough overload or just plain ignorance.
