I'm sorry about your Golden.  Do you have access to water?  We found that regular swimming was the best possible remedy for our Golden, combined with the Rimadyl.  I know a lot of people have a reluctance to keep their dogs on this drug long term, but we've had great luck with it.  We kept our Golden on it for  5 years, with increased dosages as the pain got worse.  Combined with lots of swimming, it really kept her going...good luck, I know how hard it is to see them in pain.
