My son and our family hope to be able to shake your hand, and look at each other knowing exactly we you went through.  Do you still have residual effects from the injury.  My son is still having problems, we wondered if you are experiencing the same?  Drake is featuring his story in correlation to your visit to Drake.  It is our hope that we can meet.  We are very fortunate to live just 15 minutes away, and my car now has the Drake center programed to auto pilot.

It was Christmas Eve morning '06 when we first learned of our son being injured in a skiing accident, and had been aircared to the University of Cincinnati Neurological ICU. He had a subdural Hematoma and was still bleeding. Watching Bob Woodruff and his family's journey brought me to tears. We understand it all. But seeing you Mr. Woodruff was as if I was looking at my son. I just watched and cried. Cried for you and your family that you had to suffer through the "Unknowns", crying for my family and my son for all of the anquish that we all go through those of us who have a loved one that has suffered a TBI. His injury was the same side. The stories are so similar in so many ways it's eery. So much of the story was as if it were ours. Our son is remarkable and we call him "Our Walking Miracle". He worked incredibly hard to walk with his graduating class in May '06, just 5 months from his accident. Our NSICU team much like all of your team could not give concrete answers, that is so hard. We were not allowed to touch him for the first day or two, he could not have any brain stimulation whatsoever. Our first choice that we made was that there would only be positive, upbeat, vibes (as you will) while in the room with him, talking to him or touching him. Your family handling your injury in much the same way. He had is cranioplasty 2/14/06, the skull was taken out of the freezer and screwed back in place. He is scheduled for reconstructive surgery March 7th. Please consider starting a scholarship fund for TBI students/soldiers who would like to further their education, and need help to get there. We go back to the NSICU often, we were also there for the 1st year anniversary and brought coffee for the staff and for all the families waiting for their "visiting minutes" as that is all we were allowed to give our loved ones the most rest that could get for recovery. I would absolutely love to meet the Bob Woodruff Family, exchange stories, our son was looking into joining the military, both his dad and step-dad served, unfortunately, when they called looking for information we told them of his injury and there was silence, delay, and then an answer "No" we are sorry but we would not be able to look at you for at least 5 years. He is now attending the University of Cincinnati and now applying to work at the hospital, possibly changing his major from Business to Brain Surgery.
