After having smoked for a little over 42 years of my life and am now disabled with severe Emphysema (COPD) and am now smoke free since January 11, 2002; I can personally attest that people who smoke absolutely refuse to admit they are addicted to nicotine. They honestly believe that they enjoy smoking. I know I did and everyone else I have talked with or communicated with that have finally managed to give up that Sickeratte never wanted to admit that I was so addicted that I couldn't quit smoking. Had I quit smoking when my Primary Care Physician told me that I had the beginning signs of Emphysema I may not be disabled and on Social Security Disability Income now. Instead, I continued right on puffing away until I finally destroyed what lung capacity I had left. Big Tobacco could care less! They have known that the nicotine is the most powerfully addictive substance ever known to mankind and have refused to admit it and try making a safe cigarette; if there is such a thing. I lost two very close friends, who both had lung transplants performed and died within the first year after receiving new lungs. Both of them were heavy smokers. Now, their widows and children only have loving memories of a father and husband who once lived and cared for them. And, all because Big Tobacco doesn't care what they are doing to a person's health. All they are interested in is your money. I honestly wish there was a way that those who continue to smoke today, could wake up and realize what they are doing, not only to themselves, but to all those around them who do not smoke, and especially our youth who start smoking because they see adults puffing away and think it's cool. Hopefully, someday someone will step up and find a way to put an end to this travesty and put Big Tobacco out of business once and for all.
