NBC a short time ago had to make the best of a poor decision they made regarding handing The Tonight Show over to Conan O'Brien.  It wasn't necessarily about the merits of either host, but more about what those who watched Tonight were expecting of the show and how the change in hosts meant a fairly dramatic change in what would be seen at that hour, on that show.

ABC has made a similar blunder in their poor choice of Christiane Amanpour to host This Week.  A show that once featured interviews on serious domestic policy matters followed by a weekly round table discussion, then another weekly feature of "In Memoriam" and "The Sunday Funnies", is now a showcase for an overpaid journalist who was best left at her previous job.

If ABC feels they need a "name" reporter to host a show on world affairs, they can easily carve out an hour on Sunday (preferably in the wee, small hours of the early morning) for their new star reporter.  Instead, they've essentially disemboweled all of the features about "This Week" that made it "This Week:".

ABC will hopefully find itself in the same position that NBC did, that of buying the contract of someone they thought would vault them into ratings success, only to find that their incredibly bad decision did just the opposite.
