I have the utmost respect for the former CNN war correspondent and outstanding journalist in Christianne Amanpour, however, two weeks in and I already miss Jake Tapper! After going through all of those "screen tests" with various guest hosts, I was sure that ABC had found their new host for This Week in Mr. Tapper. I was so disappointed when I heard he was not the new permanent host of the show, but tried to give Ms. Amanpour a chance. No offense, but Epic.Fail.
I should at least try to explain a bit of why I feel this way. I really respect both Jake and Christianne so I do not mean this to be taken "personally". When I tune in to This Week, I tune in because I want to know what's going on in Washington, DC. I think someone that has served as a White House correspondent is more ideally suited to hosting this show than someone like Ms. Amanpour, who is obviously brilliant and talented, but not a great fit for this particular show IMO. While I do realize that what happens in Washington very rarely "stays" in Washington, that much of what happens there involves or affects various regions of the world besides just our country, at the same time, I would prefer this show be hosted by someone with more of a "Washington" perspective than a "Global" perspective. When I'm watching This Week now, I keep thinking Wolfe Blizter is going to show up... I can't help but see this show turning into CNN Jr. The focus of the show and its tone has already shifted in a direction I don't like.
I love the idea of having a female host for a Sunday morning political show as oddly, I don't think there are any besidesĀ (now) Ms. Amanpour. However, if we were to have a female host (and I am female btw), I'd rather see someone like Cokie Roberts host the show given her lifetime of knowledge of living, working, and breathing American politics with her unique perspective and background. That said, my first choice would have been for Jake to stick around. I just felt like he really understood how things work behind the scenes in Washington, and for whatever reason, I just flat out enjoyed watching the show when he was on. He made me forget that we lost George to GMA. I realize it's early, but so far I haven't been made to forget that we lost Jake....
