Last night you had a report on bear dogs you called heroes,Monday night in Florida two real heroes died and two more were badly injured trying to save the first two. These men were Rangers for Florida Forest Service, they go where most people won't ,they walk into fires when the rest of us run the other way. These men sure don't do it for money{their starting salary is 24,000 a year}would you go into a raging inferno for that? They don't do it for the glory,it doesn't come around very often. They do it because they love their job and they want to protect our forests, our towns, our homes.I lived through the 1998 fires in Florida,it's really scary to not know when the fire is going to come your way,you learn to depend on the firefighters, forest service and the other departments that step up ,local departments that may have a few paid people but are mostly volunteers who go willingly into danger to protect their neighbors,I've seen the films of firefighters backed up to houses, fighting a wall of flames coming at them to save a strangers house, and I've seen the notes they leave when their best efforts are'nt enough and they apologise and send their regrets. Lets remember these men and women who give so much so eagerly to help us.Remember that a large majority of volunteers also work as professional firefighters for another department and on their days off they volunteer for the local department.I know because I have a son and a nephew who are both professional and volunteer firefighters. Please remember the heroes who gave their lives and remember their families Thank you.
