Thiry one years ago my son was born 5 weeks premature and was born with metal forcepts at a army hospital. So I know there was trama at birth. At 2 years old I had his hearing tested because he did not talk much and his year old sister was progressing beyong him. The experts said hearing fine but needs more peer interaction. That is when it all started. He entered school and in kinderguarden I was told he was #### and then in 1st grade I was told he was brilliant. He continued to get straight A's all though school but had teachers request meetings every report card. Stating he is "different" but has adjusted. He is now 31 years old and has never had a friend, three different tests say he has a genius iq. yet is disabled. He has tried to work though the Salvation Army thrift stores but they say he is unemployable. In his younger years he had very distinct language. His words had to be pronouced phonically and he would use unusal words for certain things and pronouce things different than others. He also was very attached to his toys until his pre-teens. It is hard to understand when someone aces the military ASVAB and College AP tests yet cannot funtion. In 12th grade he was dianosed as schzophrenic. I have always thought he was autisic but where can an adult get an evaluation. Would it make a difference to have a proper diagnosis? We just cannot get beyond the original diagnosis and the HMO we belong to.
