I am a New Jersey mother of a son on the autism spectrum (specifically with Pdd-nos). I am wondering what methods if any of medication, intervention, or resources are their out their to aide parents with children who exhibit dramatic behavior, anger, and aggression problems with autism. Day to day I find that my childs aggression is either high or low. While he is on medication currently now, I wonder what else can I do? He is seven years old and high functioning. But he is very sensitive to touch, light, and sound and has daily problems at school because of such issues. While he goes to a "regular school" he is in a self contained class with only three other students and his one-on-one aide. He struggles with a level of anger which concerns me. At this time last year, he was able to function in a mainstream class with his aide. I do not understand where the dramatic change occurred. He has gone thru various medicine changes because of adverse side affects seen by his doctors. I am a concerned single parent seeking help in any way possible in the form of information and resources within my state.
