Hello,

I have a patient who presented for evaluation after she developed a broad range of food allergies/intolerances (including some angioedema reactions) after treatment for thyroid cancer involving extensive surgery and followup radioiodine therapy. She was on pureed foods for a prolonged period (babyfood), but when finally able to resume normal eating began to have severe reactions to shellfish, fish, eggs, wheat, and a number of other foods. She is maintained in a slightly hypothyroid state due to the risk of cancer recurrence, and the only potential link I have been able to find in the literature thus far is that allergies in general may be slightly more prevalent in hypothyroidism.

Does anyone have insight in this case?

Thanks,

FMO
