The woman on the show this morning who was suspended (with pay) after it had been discovered that she wrote some lables about various kids from her past teaching experience and posted them is nothing short of heroic! I have been an educator for 7 years now and nothing has baffled me more than to be forced to come to terms with the fact that my students have more power than me; that I am held responsible for their learning, while they are in complete control of the learning process--to put it mildly, it's a MESS!! These people, just like the school board, are complaining that we aren't educating the kids and we should find another job if we don't like the one we have, the problem is not always the teacher! It makes me so angry because I know she is telling the truth. I know several students who aren't going to do anything in life. That's right. Absolutely nothing! And, I am powerless to do anything about it. I could do something, but the system has rendered me powerless. Let's take it back to the old time way when we put boards on these students' asses; where we showed up at their houses and surveyed for ourselves what kind of conditions they are living in and we did something about it...if they need food, we get them food, if they need clothes, we get them clothes, etc. and let's show these kids that we aren't playing with them...that we LOVE them and then you'll see a difference. Suspension should be taken completely off the books!! They want to be suspended! And for what? To walk around the hood all day and smoke weed!! Sure, that's helping things out a lot. When did these KIDS get such a strong voice? Aren't we supposed to be leading them and not the other way around? Start busting some asses and you'll sieze control over the discipline problem. Solve the discipline problem, you can begin to work on the academic problem. Solve the academic problem and you'll solve the poverty problem. Solve the poverty problem and you'll be back on track with Dr. King's dream. Until then, stop punishing these teachers who are telling the truth about these bad ass kids. Just last week down here in Jackson a 17 year old boy brought a gun to school. A gun!! You can play with you own kids lives. Not mine! Give us some school Supervisors who know what to do. Bring the old school ones out of retirement and let them have one year to reshape the discipline aspects of things and we'll be better off. Leave that teacher alone. I agree with her 200%. Bring the boards back and start burning up some asses!!
