I have two 5 yr old chi's that started having allergy problems when we moved into our new house 4 yr's ago.  One of them itches terribly to the point of bleeding, red skin and ear infections.  The other one coughs.  They are both on a low dose of predisolone every other day which I am told will not harm them, but they are both building muscle and fat deposits even though I watch what they eat.  I'm trying to find something that will not harm them to switch them to.  I just can't afford the cost of finding the cause of the allergies which would include blood tests and allergy testing.  I know I am just treating the symptoms but they are fine on the predisolone except for the weight gain which is getting extreme.  Can you suggest something else for me to try?  Benadrill etc.?
